Patrick Cumbie serves as ArborGen’s Interim Chief Executive Officer while continuing to lead the company’s Product Development team. In this dual role, he oversees ArborGen’s strategic direction and business operations while also guiding forest genetics, breeding programs, seed orchards, seedling quality initiatives, and long-term product development efforts. His leadership helps ensure ArborGen continues to deliver innovative solutions backed by decades of research and real-world performance data.

A recognized leader in forest genetics, Patrick has dedicated his career to advancing the science behind tree improvement and helping landowners benefit from genetic gains that improve productivity, quality, and value. He is particularly passionate about translating complex scientific concepts into practical solutions that customers can confidently apply in the field and believes innovation plays a critical role in shaping the future of forestry.

Patrick enjoys the challenge of solving complex biological and business problems and helping teams turn research, technology, and operational excellence into meaningful outcomes for customers. He remains committed to advancing ArborGen’s mission of delivering superior genetics, exceptional seedlings, and trusted expertise to forestry professionals across the globe.

He holds advanced degrees in forestry and genetics and serves as Vice President of the North American Forest Genetics Society and as an adjunct faculty member at North Carolina State University. Outside of work, Patrick enjoys backpacking, hiking, and spending time outdoors with his family.
