SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

ArborGen is seeking a Senior Accountant who will play an important role in supporting and strengthening our general accounting function. This position is integral to the day-to-day financial operations of the company, including financial reporting and analysis, month-end close, consolidated reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, cash management, oversight of the purchase order process, and fixed asset management. The Senior Accountant will also be a key contributor to the annual audit process.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Participate in month end close – Accounts Receivable, Inventory and Leases.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly consolidated financial reports of US and foreign operations.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage purchase order process – act as Buyer and key liaison to operations related to all purchasing activities.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable and work with Sales / Controller on Customer Credit
  • Key role in annual audit.
  • Department: Frequent interaction with peers in the immediate work group. Frequent interaction with Supervisor.
  • Company: Regular interaction with all internal department supervisors and management.
  • Outside Company: May interact with vendors and auditors.

 

 

  • BS in accounting or finance.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • 7 to 15 years relevant work experience
  • Strong computer skills with Excel essential (pivot tables, vlookups).
  • Strong communication skills with ability to explain variance analyses and financial terms across multiple locations and levels of management.
  • Experience with a medium to large company ERP, SAP S4 Hana a strong plus.
    • This is an exempt position.  Seasonal overtime required.  Overnight travel is expected to be minimal.

    INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

    Our internships offer hands-on experience in some of the most vital and rapidly advancing areas of environmental science, forestry, and sustainable agriculture. As an ArborGen intern, you’ll be immersed in every part of our business—from the science behind tree improvement to the operations that make it all happen.

    You’ll work alongside industry professionals across our tree orchards, nurseries, and greenhouses, gaining firsthand experience in seed production, propagation, and genetics research. You’ll also collaborate with our product development and sales teams, seeing how innovation in the field translates to commercial success and environmental impact.

    Throughout the program, interns contribute to projects that directly shape the future of forest restoration, reforestation, and sustainable resource management. You won’t just be learning—you’ll be helping move forestry forward.

     

     

     

     

     

     

    ArborGen’s Internship Program offers a full-spectrum learning experience across forestry, nursery operations, orchard management, and product development. Interns gain hands-on exposure to every stage of the seedling supply chain—from genetic research and field trials, to seed production, grafting, nursery cultivation, equipment operation, and sustainability practices. You’ll work alongside experienced forestry, agriculture, and R&D professionals while supporting real-world projects that impact reforestation, environmental stewardship, and long-term forest productivity.

    Throughout the program, interns may assist with seedling production, plant care, pest and disease identification, herbicide and insecticide applications, mass control pollination, cone harvesting, scion collection, lift truck and heavy-equipment operation, research and data collection, and technical support for nurseries, orchards, and the sales team. This comprehensive structure is designed to develop practical skills, broaden industry knowledge, and provide meaningful insight into career paths across forestry, horticulture, agriculture, and natural resources.

     

     

    • Company: Interaction with peers within department and also department managers. 

     

     

        Must be entering junior or senior year and pursuing a degree in Forestry, Agriculture, Horticulture or Natural Resource Management etc. and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

         

         

         

         

          This is a four-week program with rotations across multiple ArborGen locations, so travel will be required. Interns will receive hourly pay plus a housing stipend to help offset lodging costs. While interns are responsible for securing their own accommodations, ArborGen will offer support and guidance where possible to make the process easier.
