Forestry Nursery Specialist – Blenheim, SC

ArborGen’s Tree Nursery in Blenheim, SC has an open position for a Forestry Nursery Specialist. This facility produces 60+ million bare root pine seedlings from seed annually. The Forestry Nursery Specialist is required to perform all the skilled operations at the nursery. He/she is responsible for production goals, product quality and minimizing nursery expenses. A specialist must be reliable, innovative, team-oriented and conscientious with a positive work ethic.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Operate, maintain, modify and calibrate farm tractors, agricultural equipment, irrigation system components, and other equipment used on the job.
  • Maintain records including but not limited to equipment maintenance, parts inventory, safety inspections, and fuel records.
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of an automatic irrigation system including pump station, below ground main lines, above ground supply system, and digital controllers.
  • Assist in all phases of weed control, including herbicide application, mechanical control and hand weeding.
  • Assist in all phases of crop nutrition including fertilizer applications and crop tissue and soil sampling.
  • Wear safety personal protective equipment, maintain facility, and maintain a safe working environment.  Participate in and complete required safety training.
  • Supervise labor in various nursery operations.  Will be working with a contract labor crew on a daily basis during certain times of the year.
  • Serve as a team member and/or leader in group work improvement projects.
  • Work extended hours, weekends and holidays, outdoors in all types of weather conditions as required.  Examples would be weekend irrigation duty or repair, planting season, and lifting season to meet production goals.
  • Ability to work closely with colleagues to meat peak needs and production goals.

  • Outside Company: May participate in outside conferences and symposia when appropriate.

 

 

 

    • Experience in construction, welding, metal fabrication, and equipment maintenance.
    • Ability to be innovative and be resourceful to accomplish goals.
    • Basic math, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Associate Degree in Agriculture or Horticulture, OR 5+ years’ experience operating and maintaining agricultural equipment in lieu of education preferred.
    • Good human relations skills to serve as a team member and a team leader.

    Product Development  Research Associate

    Nacogdoches, Texas

    Coordinate and implement activities for the Pine Product Development Project related to the breeding, testing, selection, and production of loblolly and slash pine seedlings in the Western Gulf Region.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    • Coordinate the installation of genetic and silvicultural field experiments including site selection, site preparation, test layout, planting, and weed control.
    • Collect measurement data on trials.
    • Collect quality data on seedlings in nurseries.
    • Prepare establishment reports for trials and keep records of management activities.
    • Grafting & controlled pollination of loblolly pine trees, collection and processing of pollen for research activities.
    • May supervise contract labor or employees.
    • Adhere to safety policies and maintain a safe working environment.

     

    • Department: Frequent interaction with peers including participation in planning and training meetings for project progress. Frequent interaction with Supervisor and other Research Associates.

      Certifications:

      Education/Experience/Skills: 

      • Bachelor’s or associate degree in forestry or natural resource management. Five or more years of experience desired but not necessary. Experience with tree improvement practices and/or management with one of the product species preferred but not required. 
      • Familiarity with basic concepts of silviculture and forest management.
      • Good communication skills with the ability to interface at all levels of management.
      • Computer proficiency is required: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
      • Familiarity with southeastern US timber markets, tree breeding, tree improvement programs and forest management highly desired.

       

       

       

       

      Physical Requirements:

          IT Systems Administrator – Ridgeville, SC

          The Systems Administrator is an experienced Information Technology systems analyst that supports enterprise IT system infrastructure. The System Administrator is responsible for planning, implementing, installing, configuring, supporting, developing, and maintaining enterprise information systems. The position requires the ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, peripherals, connectivity, and policy issues. It also includes the research, testing, documentation, and evaluation of new products. This individual will build and maintain relationships and services with both internal, external and vendor partners to ensure processes are in place to ensure effective infrastructure service delivery.

           

           

           

           

           

           

          • Support, troubleshoot and maintain computer systems, network devices and storage devices by monitoring systems performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair.
          • Install and configure servers, network devices, firewalls, and storage devices.
          • Administer and support core Microsoft 365, Meraki, Linux, NAS, and VMware/ESX/ technologies.
