Nursery Specialist – Shellman Nursery, Shellman, GA

 ArborGen’s Nursery in Shellman, GA has an open position for a Nursery Specialist. The Nursery Specialist is required to perform all the skilled operations at a Nursery. He/she is responsible for production goals, product quality, and minimizing nursery expenses. A specialist must be reliable, innovative, team-oriented, and conscientious with a positive work ethic.

  • Operate, maintain, modify and calibrate farm tractors, agricultural equipment, conveyors, and strapping machines and other equipment used on the job.
  • Maintain records including but not limited to equipment maintenance, parts inventory, safety inspections, and fuel records.
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of an automatic irrigation system including pump station, below ground main lines, above ground supply system, and digital controllers.
  • Weld and fabricate metal items.
  • Assist in all phases of weed control, including herbicide application, mechanical control and hand weeding.
  • Assist in all phases of crop nutrition including fertilization recommendations and applications.
  • Wear safety personal protective equipment, maintain facility, and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Supervise labor in various nursery operations.
  • Serve as a team member in group work improvement projects.
  • Work extended hours, weekends and holidays, outdoors in all types of weather conditions as required.
  • Participate in and complete required safety training.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Experience in construction, welding, metal fabrication, and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to be innovative and be resourceful to accomplish goals
  • Basic math, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Associate Degree in Agriculture or Horticulture, or 5+ years experience operating and maintaining agricultural equipment in lieu of education preferred.
  • Good human relations skills to serve as a team member and a team leader.

This is heavy work exerting up to 40-100 pounds of force; work may involve climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping; worker is subject to inside and outside environment, noise, vibration, working hazards, fumes, odors, dust, gasses and chemicals; visual acuity is required for experiments; requires hearing sufficient to perceive noises for diagnostic purposes. This can be inside or outside work or working in hot, humid cold and damp conditions. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license. Applicant must pass a drug screening test.

Nursery Specialist – Bluff City Nursery, Bluff City, AR

ArborGen’s Nursery in Bluff City, AR has a Nursery Specialist position opening. The facility produces millions of bare root pine and hardwood seedlings annually.

The Nursery Specialist is required, once trained, to perform all the skilled operations at the nursery. He/she is responsible for production goals, product quality, and minimizing nursery expenses.

This individual must be reliable, innovative, team-oriented, and conscientious with a positive work ethic. Limited travel, some weekend work, and seasonal overtime will be required.

  • Operate, maintain, modify and calibrate farm tractors, agricultural equipment, conveyors and other equipment used on the job.

  • Weld and fabricate metal items.

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of an automatic irrigation system including pump station, below ground main lines, above ground supply system, and digital controllers.

  • Participate in and complete required safety training and the ability to oversee and manage contract labor safety program.

  • Maintain records including but not limited to equipment maintenance, parts inventory, safety inspections, and fuel records.

  • Assist in all phases of growing the crop including; herbicide and pest applications, hand weeding and fertilization

  • Supervise labor in various nursery operations.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Department: Frequent interaction with peers in the immediate workgroup. Regular interaction with peers in the other groups within the department. Frequent interaction with Supervisor.

Company: Regular interaction with peers in other research groups across the company as related to common research targets. Occasional participation in review sessions with CTO and Science Team

3. Outside Company: Infrequent interaction with customers, participation in outside conferences, and symposia.

  • Experience in construction, welding, metal fabrication, and equipment maintenance.

  • (Preferred) Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Agriculture / Horticulture Engineering, Welding, Electrical, General Mechanical or 5+ year’s experience operating and maintaining industrial and/or agricultural equipment in lieu of education.
  • Good human relations skills to serve as a team member and a team leader.

This is heavy work exerting up to 40-100 pounds of force; work may involve climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; the worker is subject to inside and outside environment, noise, vibration, working hazards, fumes, odors, dust, gasses, and chemicals; visual acuity is required for experiments; requires hearing sufficient to perceive noises for diagnostic purposes. This can be inside or outside work or working in hot, humid cold, and damp conditions. Will need to be able to wear a respirator for pesticide spraying. Must be able to pass respirator fit test and pulmonary function exam. Applicant must pass a drug screening test.
