Business Specialist – ArborGen Taylor Nursery: Trenton, SC.

To provide general and specialized office administration services for the ArborGen Nursery.  Serve as a knowledgably professional contact to company and non-company individuals, either personally or by telephone.

The business specialist has full responsibility for all accounting procedures using the corporate software according to ArborGen guidelines, including purchasing, accounts payable and receivable, inventory control, petty cash, purchase orders, transmittals, invoices and signing of coding aprons.  This position also involves the following specific responsibilities:

  • Proficiently mastering the use of the seedling sales accounting package and the SAP accounts payables program.  Monitor collection of accounts receivables and payments of accounts payables under the guidelines of the company policies and procedures.  Monitor customer and vendor accounts for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Serving as receptionist/customer contact person for the nursery.
  • Transcribe, compose and type correspondence and special reports.
  • Organize and maintain files and records according to company policy and procedure.
  • Develop computer databases, spreadsheets and presentations as needed.
  • Schedule seedling shipments, appointments and travel.
  • Wear safety personal protective equipment, maintain facility, and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Travel as needed to represent the nursery at trade shows and meetings (less than 10 days per year.
  • Maintain office supply inventory.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
  • **Hours may vary during lifting seasons**

Department: Daily interaction with direct reports if applicable.  Frequent interaction with peers in the immediate work group.  Regular interaction with peers in other groups within the department.  Frequent interaction with Supervisor.

Company: Regular interaction with peers in other research groups across the company as related to common research targets. 

Outside Company: Participation in outside conferences and symposia.

  • Minimum of five years experience in office administration and data processing, or a two-year college diploma and two years experience.
  • Formal computer training or comparable experience in Microsoft office, especially Excel.
  • Experience in SAP Software Preferred.
  • Basic math and accounting skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • References indicating dependability, punctuality, courtesy, self-motivation and teamwork skills.

This position is an office position, but is sedentary to medium work exerting up to 40 pounds of force; work may involve climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping; worker is subject to inside and outside environment, noise, vibration, working hazards, fumes, odors, dust; visual acuity is required; requires hearing sufficient to perceive noises for diagnostic purposes.

Reforestation Advisor – Sales Territory:  Florida, Southern Alabama, Southern Georgia

The Reforestation Advisor position is responsible for managing seedling sales and customer support.

  • Safely complete all essential work functions in your area
  • Focus on selling advanced genetic products, key customer segments, growing market share and increasing profitability
  • Manage the execution of regional sales plan and reports to Sales Manager
  • Promote and manage current business philosophy and model
  • Represent and promote company at regional, state and local forestry events
  • Coordinate with nurseries to assist with transportation and quality
  • Manage territory budget
  • Interact with RAs, Nurseries, Product Development and Marketing in support and lead of sales activity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Forestry, Agribusiness or related field.
  • 3-5 years of sales experience, knowledge of forestry and reforestation process beneficial
  • Experience managing customer issues/ customer database (CRM)
  • Needed skills include: computer proficiency, written and verbal communication, presentation skills.

Ability to travel domestically for up to two week periods. Nursery Specialist – Shellman, Georgia

ArborGen’s Nursery in Shellman, GA has an open position for a Nursery Specialist. The Nursery Specialist is required to perform all the skilled operations at a Nursery. He/she is responsible for production goals, product quality and minimizing nursery expenses. A specialist must be reliable, innovative, team-oriented and conscientious with a positive work ethic.

  • Operate, maintain, modify and calibrate farm tractors, agricultural equipment, conveyors, and strapping machines and other equipment used on the job.

  • Maintain records including but not limited to equipment maintenance, parts inventory, safety inspections, and fuel records.

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of an automatic irrigation system including pump station, below ground main lines, above ground supply system, and digital controllers.

  • Weld and fabricate metal items.

  • Assist in all phases of weed control, including herbicide application, mechanical control and hand weeding.

  • Assist in all phases of crop nutrition including fertilization recommendations and applications.

  • Wear safety personal protective equipment, maintain facility, and maintain a safe working environment.

  • Supervise labor in various nursery operations.

  • Serve as a team member in group work improvement projects.

  • Work extended hours, weekends and holidays, outdoors in all types of weather conditions as required.

  • Participate in and complete required safety training.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

 

  • Experience in construction, welding, metal fabrication, and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to be innovative and be resourceful to accomplish goals

  • Associate Degree in Agriculture or Horticulture, or 5+ years experience operating and maintaining agricultural equipment in lieu of education preferred.

Financial Analyst – Ridgeville, South Carolina

Responsible for working with corporate leadership team to conduct market / business assessments and obtain organizational support of strategic and tactical initiatives.  Perform financial analyses in support of acquisitions, capital investments, operational plans and business development initiatives.  Develop  financially model of portfolio of commercial and pipeline products to reflect long range plan and strategic imperatives.  Support Portfolio Management activities via key analyses such as market trends, forecasted sales, gross margin by product (segment).

  • Support commercial assessment of key collaborations in cooperation with Management team and other functional groups.
  • Provide financial modeling of deal economics and technology values as input to negotations and term sheet development; including NPV, IRR, payback and sensitivity analyses as appropriate.
  • Develop and manage financial models for each business segment as well as an integrated total company forecast and valuation.
  • Evaluate and quantify strategic decisions and opportunites, including research and development options, capital spending, domestic and international expansion projects and acquisition opportunities.
  • Create and review presentations summarizing project analyses for various audiences.
  • Provide key analyses such as market trends, forecasted sales, gross margin by product (segment) in support of portfolio management activities.
  • Source, organize and disseminate market research information.
  • Facilitate prospecting for new partners in potential markets through participation in industry meetings and other tradeshows
  • Generally manage requests from corporate, business development and project leaders.

  • Masters in Business Administration; Minimum three years work experience required in the areas of finance, portfolio management, product management, analysis or other related field.
  • Exceptional knowledge of excel with strong financial modeling/analysis skills (NPV, IRR, payback period, sensitivity analyses, etc.).
  • Strong data collection and analytical skills (digesting large amounts of information on key trends, opportunities, etc.)
  • Superior interpersonal skills. Proven ability to work with multiple cross-functional groups to meet corporate objectives.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills a must.
  • Ability to frame business issues, analyze options, and concisely articulate a course of action to scientific, business and financial audiences.

The position is based in ArborGen’s corporate headquarters in Ridgeville, South Carolina.

Travel will vary from limited to moderate, depending on nature of business development initiatives underway.
