Currently, about one-third of the world’s commercial wood supply comes from planted forests. By applying new technologies, it is estimated that all of the world’s timber production could be produced and harvested on an area roughly five to ten percent of the total forest today.

This means more of the earth’s forests can remain in their natural state, maintaining native habitats and conserving biodiversity. By preserving forests for future generations, we can realize the promise and potential of the world’s forests for cleaner air and to counter global climate change.
Thanks to years of research in tree breeding and new discoveries in biotechnology, ArborGen is helping address this need by producing trees that are more productive, thus reducing the need to harvest from native forests.
ArborGen, LLC, is a partnership supported by more than 100 researchers and plant scientists from the United States, Brazil and New Zealand.
