Seedling Lifting and Planting is Here!
Maximize your seedling survival by avoiding these common planting mistakes.

Too Shallow
Root collar and roots exposed, drying out roots.

Too Deep
Pine bud within 2″ of the ground line.

"J" or "U" Roots
Roots form a “J” or “U” shape resulting in poor or weak root development.

Too Loose
A firm pull on one needle cluster moves plant.

Excessive Tap Root Pruning
Pine seedling roots should not be pruned shorter than 5″. Hardwood seedling roots should not be pruned shorter than 6″.

Not Erect
The tap root should not be planted at more than 30˚ from perpendicular.
ArborGen is dedicated to your success. In keeping with this commitment, we have created a “Daily Planting Log” available at our nurseries.
This log allows the landowner, consultant, or planting contractor to document several vital details at delivery, including the condition of the seedlings, confirmation of correct seedling type, and packaging. Along with the initial inspection, the Planting Log allows the appropriate person to keep track of the date of planting, weather conditions, planting tools, etc. All of this information can be recorded and readily accessible in the event of any questions after planting is complete.
Make sure you request that a Daily Planting Log is included in your delivery or pick-up. At right is an example of the log. Please contact the nursery or reforestation advisor should you have any questions.

Picking Up Your Seedling Order
Please call ahead to arrange pick-up of your seedlings. This will allow our nursery personnel to provide you expedited service in a safe environment.
If you are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, we ask that you do not enter the nursery. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the nursery you plan to visit.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Are You On the Reforestation Forum Yet?
Our reputation is built on two pillars…
Forestry Knowledge: The best scientific data and experienced staff.
Customer Service: Being a true partner and acting with integrity.
To continue to deliver on both, this summer we launched The Reforestation Forum. This free online community builds on the collaborative spirit of foresters by creating a convenient place for you to share and learn from others in the field – including our own experts. It’s another way for you to tell us your needs and ideas, so we can further improve our services and products. Click Here for more information about the Reforestation Forum.
