When You Have to Plant Late
It is always best to plant pine seedlings as early as possible when the weather conditions are favorable. However, due to various reasons like weather and planter availability, some seedlings may need to be planted in March and April. To ensure good growth and survival of the seedlings, you need to follow some essential guidelines while planting them.
If you have bareroot seedlings, it is better to lift and pack them while they are still fully dormant. You can store them in cold storage for up to four weeks without significant loss of survivability or growth potential. It is critical to store them while fully dormant rather than after they have started to grow. Once the seedlings have begun to grow, the storage time will be reduced significantly.
If you are waiting for tree planters or favorable weather to plant your property, you still have some time left to plant and expect good results. However, you must be extra careful to ensure that the seedlings are stored and planted using the best practices.
